I'd be interested to see how one's success coaching at a lower level (D-1A, D-II, etc.) translates to success at the top tier schools.

You've got to think that actual coaching and player development is at a premium, given that you are left with "the scraps" and kids that don't have the obvious talent that wind up getting D-1A scholarships.

At a point, that probably evens out with recruiting acumen. You can be a great recruiter and a shitty coach and things tend to go poorly (see: Zook, Ron).
