A few footnotes -
I agree with the comment far below about considering the program and factoring that in to the level of risk. For example, Rutgers giving Weis his first head job and trying him at college level would have been less risky than ND doing it.
And a team hiring their own ass't (e.g. Chip Kelly) to be first time head coach is somewhat less risky as he knows the program and they know him, learning curve not quite so steep.
