Is that wisdom or risk?

You said that Weis was a gamble. A reasonable one? Sure. But I thought the question was to assess the relative risk of hiring one versus the other, rather than the relative wisdom of doing so.

Rodriguez, even if he wasn't Michigan's first choice, had proven that he could win as a college head coach. And he built and sustained West Virgina's program with arguably lesser talent than he would presumably have at Michigan.

Weis had barely sniffed a college campus as a coach, and he had no head coaching experience outside of high school. I thought Weis would succeed, but I can't say that hiring him wasn't a huge risk. It was just a risk that I thought would pay off.
