Kobe grew up in Italy and he personally credited european academies for teaching him basic fundamentals & developing a "core" that allowed him to become a truly great player.

He HATED, LOATHED, & DESPISED AAU basketball and AAU culture in general. Kobe thought AAU ball ruined basketball in the states because they focused on things that had nothing to do with basketball development (showcase games, personal highlights, individualism).
