This is a guy who's been around football (and sports) his whole life. And this is one of the most well-understood tropes. Yet he's seemingly surprised he needs to account for it? Doesn't matter that it's the "first time in his three years" we've won the big early game.

Which makes me think that it's not that he doesn't understand it. It's just that he doesn't know how to handle it.
