They're keeping score, one way or another, because it's a competition in the marketplace.

The sport is about competition. There are a lot of areas where we have no need to keep score. But if we are hoping to reinforce the positives of certain techniques, we should keep score -- and ensure scoring dependent upon the skills we want to build.
