the America that the Baby Boomers (and those older than the Baby Boomers) grew up in was very different from an institutional, ethnic/racial composition, and 'consensus' perspective than the country that exists/is emerging today. People doubling their enthusiasm for long-held, traditional (however a person identifies it) beliefs makes a lot of sense.


EDIT: and I will add that in the past couple of decades there has certainly emerged not only a cultural but also an economic market for preaching ideas such as anti-scientism, anti-secularism, etc. When stuff the Creation Museum exists as a multi-million dollar annual enterprise, a durable feedback loop can get established fairly quickly
