If we're being honest, the US got a cracker of a group draw in the preliminary round. Does anyone think that was coincidental? Of course it wasn't. But the team has performed close to the best of its capabilities thus far, regardless of opponent (pointless Türkiye game notwithstanding). And I didn't notice anyone waving the flag less enthusiastically the past two weeks bc Infantino greased the wheels on behalf of our potbellied pig of a president.

The reality is that FIFA is and has long been an intensely corrupt operation. Favors have been given to many nations for many different reasons over the years. The US appears to be calling one in now, which is regrettable. But to pretend like we are benefitting from preferential treatment in some unprecedented way is naive, to put it mildly.

Would it be better if Balogun isn't responsible for an American win tomorrow? Sure! Everyone is free to root how they like, but I'm not going to let any of this detract from what USMNT is doing for as long as they're still alive.
