She has a PhD in 2 of the issues at hand, and while it's definitely cause for concern, she's not panicked. She's not in the lab these days, but she tracks all the news in ways I don't understand.
The 2 areas of concern are 1) China is going to lie no matter what, and to people who can make a difference - as in global public health officials. And 2) It's likely that people in the Trump admin will lie if and when things get bad here.
That said, from what she's read and understands, thus far it does look like those getting a severe illness are people who already had chronic health issues. Let's just hope China isn't lying about that.
