The entire Big XII continues to live a lie.

Our old friend Charlie Weis could do us a favor by actually pulling one of these close games out and making it clear that a team like Texas Tech is not any good at all, but apparently that's beyond him. Kansas State's merits were established with the OU win (oh hey, we did that too) and enhanced by beating up on West Virginia -- who has since proven to be an absolutely shitty football team -- and Texas Tech -- whose merits were established by beating up on West Virginia. The whole thing is a house of cards.

Everyone cracks on the SEC for their OOC scheduling, but at least there are a handful of games against traditionally-strong teams like Michigan, FSU, Texas and Clemson for the conference to measure itself in an appropriate fashion. OU's game against ND was the only attempt any of the Big XII schools made to do something similar, above and beyond the mid-level Iowa/Miami/Virginia dreck that has Brad Edwards all hot and bothered.

But I'm sure if you ask any pollster why Kansas State is ranked higher than ND on most every ballot, he'll tell you that it's because the Wildcats have got what plants crave.
