Interesting preliminary polling, though

I saw one that had Troy Jackson, the former Maine senate president, leading Collins by a decent margin.

Who knows how accurate snap polls are, but it's something.

Also, Nate Cohn of the NYT has shifted the race to Lean D - even before it's known whose running. He's a poll analyst so he's crunched the numbers.

My suspicion is that enough people are tired enough of Susan Collins that they'd support a flawed candidate until the news on him made that impossible.

My other suspicion is that some of the new candidates didn't run in the first place because they assumed incorrectly that Janet Mills was a lock to be nominated because she won re-election in a landslide (against the execrable Paul LePage), looking past that she's 78 years old and people are getting sick and tired of the gerontocracy.
