FU: Tonight was beautiful

Pardon a somewhat beer-fueled perspective post, but look, we haven't won a knockout match in 24 years, and this is only the second time we've ever won one. And while there are reasons to fret about Belgium, particularly in light of Balgoun's (bullshit) red, I say we should let that sink in for a moment. Tonight was 24 years and a hell of a lot of frustration in the making.

As a bonus, I took my son to a neighborhood gamewatch party tonight that looked an awful lot like what I used to wish gamewatches would look like 30+ years ago, when I first fell in love with this game and it felt almost nobody else cared.

I'm not a gatekeeper, and anyone and everyone is welcome on this bandwagon, but for those of us who remember the bad old days, back when the USMNT was still playing kickball and calling it soccer to a country that could not possibly have cared less, tonight was really fucking sweet.
