Notre Dame wide receiver DaVaris Daniels was cited for and formally charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor early Sunday morning in his hometown of Vernon Hills, Ill.
According to court documents, the 19-year-old sophomore-to-be was not arrested but was ordered to appear in Lake County (Ill.) Circuit Court's Mundelein Branch at 9 a.m. on June 14.
The clerk's office said minor consumption is an ordinance violation, not a criminal case. Daniels was one of 29 minors cited and charged at a residence in Vernon Hills, Ill.
The citation summary said while responding to a call for an ambulance, all subjects were found to be participating in an underage drinking party and had consumed alcohol while under the age of 21.
The address of the party matches the address of Daniels' residence.
Daniels, a 6-foot-2, 190-pounder, heads into summer as a candidate for a start wide receiver spot after redshirting his freshman season.
Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly was not immediately available for comment.
At the June hearing, the judge could choose to withhold judgment on the charge, and order Daniels to attend alcohol counseling and perform community service. If he completes those terms, the judge might dismiss the case.
