It looks like he's getting paid through 2015

by Kumar, Wednesday, May 16, 2012, 08:56 (5138 days ago) @ CK08

From the article:

"'Termination payment of $2,054,744 was made during the reporting period to Charles J. Weis under a separation agreement that includes additional annual payments through December, 2015,' the latest form states."

Now whether that means he'll continue to get $2 million each year remains to be seen, but IF that statement is accurate, Weis will be collecting for a while longer.

I reserve most of mine for White.

Right. I thought that it had been reported that there had

been a pretty significant negotiated reduction of that "buyout," including possibly that some of it would take the form of a donation to Hannah and Friends. Although it's so hard to separate fact from internet speculation in that part of my brain, since at the time I was panicking that we were going to hire Randy Edsall.

I believe that Monk should be saddled with the financial

ramifications of the Willingham firing, since the contract and any extension thereof occurred on his watch.

The Willingham firing, Weis hiring, Weis extension, and Weis firing all happened under Jenkins.

The really fun part of this whole thing came when Tyrone had been fired and the Lame Duck Monk publicly bashed the decision at some event.

Is that fully on him?

I may be revising history here, but wasnt 2004 part of the transition between Malloy and Jenkins. I thought I recall Jenkins having the authority to fire Willingham as "future business" but the constraints were still firmly in the mold of the previous regime.

Is that $19 million figure

assuming that the buyout payments will continue through the end of Weis' 2005 contract (which is what? 2015?).

Are we sure that's accurate? Given that he got a big lump sum payment when he was first fired, it's probable that the the buyout payments won't last that much longer.

It's not even clear to me that he's going to get one for 2012 (although he probably will).

Losing is expensive

Given what ND has spent under Jenkins in termination payments it likely have been cheaper for him to have made Meyer the highest paid coach in the game in 2004 than to cut Willingham and Weis termination checks in addition to Weis & Kelly's salaries.

That said Jenkins deserves credit for making the decision to eat the rest of Weis' contract when his tenure reached the point of no return.

So we're done paying Willingham, I guess.

If he made it an unrestricted gift...

by Greg, seemingly ranch, Tuesday, May 15, 2012, 20:37 (5138 days ago) @ River

...he could be in the highest level of the Sorin Society and basically be guaranteed tickets to any games he wants to attend. Which, while not ideal for a guy who is currently working in Lawrence, KS, might be fun for the kids in residence at the farm.

The gift that keeps on giving

Damn, I hate that guy.

Heard he plans on donating to the general scholarship fund.

Weis, who was fired in November 2009 after five seasons and now coaches Kansas, received $2,054,744 of buyout money from Notre Dame in the period covering July 2010 through June 2011.

He received an initial payment of $6,638,403 after his firing, meaning his much-debated buyout total stands at $8,693,147 - and, if it continues at this rate, it could approach $19 million.
