Freeman and coaching from ahead

We’ve all seen Freeman grow so much as a coach since taking the job. This kind of preseason circumstance is new. How does he manage the expectations here? Holtz was famous for tamping down expectations. Recall, “I’m scared to death of Rice?” Apt since we are playing them in September. Leave no doubt is a great slogan. How does he make sure it lives throughout the season? I’m sure he has a plan. I wonder what it is.

Carr is such a perfectionist

that I expect him to keep the offense very much grounded. If anything, the concern is more about him getting too down when he isn't 24-of-27 with 4 TDs. He needs to continue working thru how he manages adversity. I'm sure it's been part of his offseason improvement plan.

On defense, we are too deep for any single player to get comfortable. No one, not even Moore, is indispensable. I suspect that will serve as motivation enough to stave off complacency. Take a couple plays off, and you will find your ass on the bench.
