TL/DR - Michigan is about to realize a $2B windfall from their early investment in OpenAI and there's rumblings that they intend to put $500MM of that into the athletic department.

Seems like a $2 billion windfall could buy a lot.

They could turn themselves into the top university for research and training in whatever fields they want. I'd go with AI and robotics, but there are surely other options. At ~5% interest, that's $100 million per year without spending it down.

Or, sure, money for football and basketball. I guess it's better than how MSU or USC would spend the money, which would be paying off sexual assault victims.

that's a great way to look at it

If you had $500 million, how would you move the needle on your football program?

I'll bet that Jack's UA stock returned just as much.
