Oh I'd rather have Partridge, too.
No doubt about it. And maybe it turns out that you're right on this, but IMAO the guys who are really good line coaches don't ever go out of style. They're lifers, like Joe Moore or Larry Johnson. Orgeron has a cultural symbiosis with LSU in the same way that Freeman fits perfectly at ND, and I also tend to think that he's a very effective recruiter separate from all the 'bagman' stuff.
Have to be honest
I think he is past his “sell by” date. Residue of a bygone era. I’d rather have Partridge all day every day.
Not sure how much EdO helped
but I do know that Taylor is widely considered a rising star as a DL coach. I wouldn't doubt that he was the main man behind the unit's impact last season.
That is interesting.
As I said, O is one of the better position coaches in the business. So LSU's gain in this situation is by extension Miami's loss, apparently.
Whenever Hetherman moves on from Miami -- I'm guessing he'll be on to bigger & better after the upcoming season -- Cristobal goes back on the clock again. The Hurricanes' success last year would have been impossible without his transformation of what had been an objectively shitty defense in 2024.
"Is this not a fun show, Alabama Jones?"

He actually joked about this on the Bussin' podcast
A couple of things
This is kind of a funny and interesting hire because Lane was just on the podcast Pardon my Take where the hosts asked him specifically about bringing back Coach O. Lane told some stories about their days at USC but didn't really elaborate, which is unusual for Lane because he was spilling beans about a lot of other gossip. This had to be in the works at the time of the interview.
But there is also a ND angle here too. Depending on what outlet you read, Orgeron was involved with Cristobal and the Miami staff. Some outlets were inferring it was a drop in guest appearance thing. Easy Ed suggested something different:
“I’ve been here four years with Mario,” Orgeron said in an appearance on Andy & Ari On3. “He’s done a great job of hiring my young son, Cody, and then he hired my other boy, Parker. So I’ve been involved with the program, talk to the defensive line coaches. But I’ve seen (Cristobal) increase the talent level immensely in the last four years.

I don't want to overstate Ed's impact on Miami DL but I think the performance last year was different (and improved over season's past). Now, that could be a Hetherman impact but Coach O was a bona fide solid DL coach. Wonder if that has any effect on Miami this next year because Jason Taylor (yes, that JT) is a pretty inexperienced line coach.
All jokes aside, a strong hire.
Orgeron knows the area as well as anyone and is a phenomenal recruiter and DL coach.

“The native son/ bag man returns” could be the title of this article.
Its not like Kiffin has ever been known for running a clean, high character program.
