A bunch of night games

by Jeff (BGS) @, A starter home in suburban Tempe, Thursday, May 07, 2026, 07:16 (19 days ago)

Maybe this has been going on for a while and I haven’t noticed, but I’m surprised by the number of night games coming up for 2026.

Home 3:30 : Rice, Stanford, BC
Home 7:30 : Michigan State, Miami, SMU

The home game vs Wisconsin at Lambeau is also a 7:30 start.

SMU on 11/21 is going to be a cold one

by Aaron (Shakespeare), Thursday, May 07, 2026, 07:31 (19 days ago) @ Jeff (BGS)

I know the comfort of spectators isn't a top consideration when setting kickoff times, but yikes- that's the time of year when the extra 5-10 degrees in the afternoon would make it a lot more pleasant in the stadium. From memory, I don't think we've ever hosted a night game that late in the season, aside from the IU playoff game.

Clemson 2022 wasn't as late and it wasn't that cold, but...

by cdawg, Thursday, May 07, 2026, 14:03 (18 days ago) @ Aaron (Shakespeare)

The Clemson guy behind me thanked me for putting on my jacket at halftime. He was worried I'd get sick.

If it's a really cool night with some wind, SMU probably isn't going to like it. Hopefully, they're ranked in the top 15 at the time or just ranked to at least make it worthwhile to go.

BYU 2013 was a 3:30p start on 11/21

by MattG, Thursday, May 07, 2026, 09:28 (18 days ago) @ Aaron (Shakespeare)

Temperature was 26 at kickoff, but it was brutally windy and snowing, and once the sun set it was pretty unbearable.

I was there with my son, who was 7 at the time - we had to leave just after half. It just wasn't a place you could be with kids.

The wind that day was crazy. That was cold. The

Syracuse Manti game was cold.

I was at the VaTech game in 2016. There was a bunch of snow, but I don't recall it being that cold.

IU was supposed to have been frigid but wasn't bad -- possibly because it was just so much dang fun.

I may have mentioned that I found the weather at Stanford 2014 fairly uncomfortable.

The Indiana game was very cold

by IrishGuard, Thursday, May 07, 2026, 09:47 (18 days ago) @ BillyGoat

but there wasn't much wind, as I recall. Once you were packed into the stands, it wasn't bad at all.

Of course, the crowd was prepared for a late December game; everyone I was with wore snowsuits, which made it more bearable.

Yeah, not that bad.

Navy in '91 (?) was the worst I've sat thru. Other than the upper deck at Wrigley for a Cubs game in April on a dorm trip. Holy shit was that miserable. We were buying their shitty excuse for hot chocolate just to pour on our hands to stave off frostbite.

It’s also kind of weird to play both Rice and SMU

by Jeff (BGS) @, A starter home in suburban Tempe, Thursday, May 07, 2026, 08:37 (18 days ago) @ Aaron (Shakespeare)

SMU is pretty good now and they are ranked preseason, but I still think of the late 80s versions of both them and Rice. Was it Rusty Setzer who ran out of bounds to keep the score down vs SMU?

ND’s schedule could be kind of sneaky good next season is Miami, BYU, and SMU all have good seasons. It’s good that those potentially ranked games are all after mid October. I suppose Syracuse has a chance to be good as well.

The idea that the schedule is super weak

by Dallasdomer, Thursday, May 07, 2026, 11:02 (18 days ago) @ Jeff (BGS)

Is being repeated by the beats incessantly. First, it’s very hard to know what a schedule will end up being unless it is littered with blue bloods. Even then, last year PSU wasn’t nearly as good as people predicted. Second, there are multiple teams on there who were good to great last year and may well be close to that this year. It’s certainly not as strong out of the gate as last year’s first two games, but it’s very hard to say much more than that in May.

Miami is probably a lock for the playoffs

by Jeremy (WeIsND), Offices of Babip Pecota Vorp & Eckstein, Thursday, May 07, 2026, 11:17 (18 days ago) @ Dallasdomer

SMU and BYU will be in contention for most of the season, I'd guess. Navy is always a possible Group of 5 candidate.

I'd be curious to see how many non-SEC/B1G teams play 4 legitimate playoff contenders regularly.

The "problem" with the schedule, such that it is, involves the "fleshy middle." Typically we'll have a few 8-4, 9-3 type teams that represent trap games or quality wins. Not sure I see any of those this season. Maybe UNC if Belichick actually knows/cares what he's doing down there.

Are we also playing Dallas Skyline and East Dillon?
