It is Kerry Wood day everyone

the greatest game ever pitched. I don't have the ability to link anything, but several of you have sent it to me. 100 heat, two different whiffle ball breakers. Shocking his elbow blew up.

It's hard to say it's the greatest game ever pitched, as Nolan threw 7 no hitters. And hit 108.1 (please watch the documentary Fastball).

But look it up. It was a stupid incredible pitching performance.

And the fun thing about baseball, which I was never really good at, is Maddox is just as good throwing 89 and having it spin this way or that way. It's an interesting game.

But I'd rather hit people.

I lived in a rooftop building across the street. I'd had a

morning meeting downtown, but I was back home in the top half of the third. I could see into the field from a balcony in our apartment and watched a couple of innings from there. The corporate event on our roof was lightly attended due to the rain and general overcast day, so I was able to watch the last 5 innings from the roof with some free cold beer and food.

Helluva day!

Should have been a no hitter, too, but 20Ks is still pretty sweet.

I started watching that game

in maybe the 3rd inning? It was finals week and I was a senior. Sitting and/or lying on the couch in a common room at O'Neill (since I got kicked out of Grace).

Was absolutely wild to see the Ks pile up. I was thinking I'd go back to studying at some point, but stuck with it.

Side note, I watched so many hours of Law & Order on that sofa....

How'd you get kicked out of Grace?

Parietals violation, you old sailor?!

Nobody was getting kicked out of Grace

I assume Bobby just means getting kicked out because it shut down. Grace ended its streak as a dorm in 96. The Wood game was '98.

Father Terry Linton (last Grace rector) was an interesting bird. I liked the guy. But he was a fairly self-avowed introvert. I recall his introduction to us as freshman being something like "if you want to get to know me, my door is always open. But I generally don't venture beyond the 1st floor."

And the dude wasn't kidding. Shit. We had our RA (will remain nameless) breaking parietals. Once during Grace Week (I think we had a SYR, possible it wasn't during Grace week) someone pulled the fire alarm in the early Sunday morning (~5am) and I've never seen so many girls scatter at ND. One of the few times I saw Father Terry above the first floor was when my buddies in the self-nicknamed 700 Club filled out a party card.* Apparently that was the 4th party card handed in from either that section or the floor. Fr. Terry knocked on the door of the 7th floor study room converted into a dorm room and asked if anyone in the room was at least 21. Of course no one was. He said please consolidate this party with another one of the gatherings on the 7th floor.

1996 was the last anyone heard about Fr. Terry. Rumors circulated that he went to California to further his studies and left the priesthood. Always liked the guy. I don't think he was kicking too many guys out.

* For those not familiar, and I am sure times have changed, if you wanted to have a gathering and alcohol was going to be present you had to fill out a BS card about how many people and non-alcoholic options available. It was really just a ruse.

I was there during the Fr. Gerry Lardner days before him

Lots of people had stories about his proclivities, but I personally had no problems with him.

Even when my room got busted for leaving our room a complete pigsty over Christmas break (luckily none of us told him about the actual fight that had caused the mess). He was truly pissed at us for being disrespectful to the cleaning staff. Having to spend a whole Saturday doing maintenance for the dorm was fair.

Afterwards punishment day, he was as cordial as ever to us.

Haha. I remember those party cards

I've heard the same about Fr Terry. And, you're spot on. We were *all* kicked out of Grace, haha.

Spent some time reminiscing with a guy who was an RA my freshman year and everything you say is completely true. The only thing my sophomore year RA ever did was close a door while pretending nothing was happening. This fella said that Fr Terry's goal each weekend was "nobody dies".

I mean, right? You don't just throw that out there without
