To which I would say
don't elect or appoint criminals to political office and there would be no need for prosecutions at all. The plague of current American politics is that elected office has become such a reliable refuge from accountability that criminals now actively seek to ply their trade there for the primary purpose of avoiding punishment. It is deranged.
