the writing is just so piss poor

All the production value stuff is generally great. The score is great. The broad stroke characters are pretty great. The acting is great! But in individual scenes it's so painful to watch obviously gifted actors trying to wrench as much as they can out of such thin gruel.
That's why I thought last night was probably the best episode of the season. They had not one but two scenes which were pretty well written. I just about fell out of my chair.
