The mashed potatoes at L'atelier Joel Robuchon
might be the single greatest food on the planet. I'll also second Harry's New York Bar: I had a Lost Generation moment there, drinking absinthe while sitting under a Notre Dame pennant. (Absinthe tastes like death, of course, but they also make an excellent old fashioned.)
