we had a snow drift that year that went up to our roof.

my brothers and i pulled a sled into the upstairs bathroom and took turns sledding off the roof into that drift.

that was awesome until mom found out.

South Bend had 86 inches of snow in January 1978

And 41 inches on the ground at the end of the month, after the Great Blizzard of January 25-29. We were out of school for 13 calendar days in a row.
