BREAKING: George Edwards leaves Gators for Buffalo Bills

Well, that was quick.

Less than a month after taking Florida's defensive coordinator position, George Edwards is leaving to take the same position with the Buffalo Bills, a UF coach confirmed to the Sentinel.

Edwards was officially hired by Urban Meyer on Jan. 8 and now leaves the day after the Gators signed one of the best defensive recruiting classes in history. Edwards came to UF from the Miami Dolphins, where he was linebackers coach. He briefly replaced Charlie Strong, who took the Louisville job in December.

Edwards, one of four Gators coaches hired in the offseason, will rejoin Buffalo head coach Chan Gailey, who led the Dallas Cowboys in the late 90s while Edwards was Dallas' linebackers coach.

Internal candidates include defensive backs coach Chuck Heater and defensive line coach Dan McCarney, former Iowa State head coach.

They should really have some sort of conditional acceptance

While I know there are plenty of reasons why a recruit signs with a school (geography, academics, competing for championships, religion, etc.), I have to think top athletes are focused mainly on the coaching staff and the talent around them to win championships.

If a player's position coach, his coordinator or the HC leaves, the recruit should have the option to explore other schools without losing eligibility. Granted there may not be many other options out there given that other recruiting classes a pretty full, it at least gives the kid an out.

What a bunch of a$$holes

Is the used car market really that bad that these guys need to run to college football?

I don't have much sympathy...

for people (mainly the parents of recruits) that ignore the established patterns of behavior of coaches like Meyer and Kiffin.
