[Kelly] also had good vibes with regard to the status of quarterback Dayne Crist, who is coming off the torn ACL he suffered last Halloween.

"I think he's well ahead of anybody. He will participate [in the spring,]" Kelly said. "My goal right now - and I don't think that I'm putting (head trainer) Jim Russ in jeopardy at all - in that I think he's going to be able to partake in virtually everything but contact."

Kelly said that his quarterbacks do some contact in the spring.

"They do, but nobody will get in his zip code area," he said. "You're going to see a lot of him in the spring."
