A coaching, motivation, reward, grab bag ? for the board

Curious as to each member's thoughts.

Let's say we run the table to USC (please no comments on whether this is possible or not).

Green jersey time?

I realize there are many reactions:

1) It's a gimmick! That would be stupid!

2) It hasn't worked in the past, that would curse the team.

3) It's a good reward for a great run.

4) It's a great movivating factor.

5) It shows we don't think we can beat USC, we need a gimmick to do it.

6) It hurts the team, USC shouldn't be put on a pedestal.

7) Wake up the echoes!

8) and on and on and on and on.

What say you?

I really don't have an opinion either way. The seven comments above all make sense to me. I was just curious, and we don't have much else to talk about until spring ball starts.

My thoughts.

#4 its a great motivatin factor. Unfortunatly it's for USC. The problem is the green jersey's have lost their cashe over the years due to overuse. It used to mean that the Irish really were coming to play, now the other team looks and see's it as a slap in the face. They need to be put in storage for a minimum of five years and then only be brought out when it is a huge game. Frankly the jersey's jumped the shark when Ty brought them out against BC.

Now names on the back of the jersey's for the bowl game, I like.

I agree, although we probably need to wait more than 5 years

I wouldn't mind switching to green jerseys for an entire season, or perhaps for some big "lesser" games (say the barnstorming games), or even green pants for road games. I also like the names on the backs for bowl games.

But, I'd agree that the green jerseys seem to motivate the opponent more than the Irish and I also agree that Ty game them the death blow against BC. So, let's put them on the shelf for a long time against Southern Cal, then maybe pull them out for the 50th anniversary of the original green jersey game.

no to green, but

wear maroon or cardinal or whatever they call it. beat them in their own damn colors.

(my serious answer is wear navy and beat them into submission)

I'd stick to what has worked best in the past

ND's W-L-T record vs. Southern Cal since the iconic Green Jersey Game of 1977, based on color of jerseys worn at the start of the game*:

Navy blue: 8-2
"Madonna blue": 0-1
Green (various shades): 2-3
White: 6-9-1

* -- In 1985, ND opened the game in navy blue jerseys but switched to green jerseys at halftime, despite already leading 27-0. They could have worn pink in the second half and it would have made no difference. ND won 37-3. Exactly one month later, Gerry Faust was belatedly forced to resign.

I'd suit 'em up in Navy blue on October 17.

I like the camo jerseys Army wore last year...

Can we wear those?

They really

should give some serious thought to making those jerseys permanent. They were great.

But, like a old TE, you as usual avoided the question, just like it was contact.

The middle of the field is wide open, don't ya want ta play?
