Thought I was going to get to be 12 years old again today.
So I’m down in Beaufort, NC with the GF for her quarterly State Bar events & I had the whole day free & decided to do Ft Macon (been several times & always enjoy it) & the Maritime Museum (which covers all the bases going back to about 1585 with a huge focus on Edward Teach aka Blackbeard).
So I drove by a Pizza Hut & noticed a banner promoting the lunch buffet; which I thought died out years ago.
Apparently it’s come back as part of a nostalgia campaign.
The lunch buffet was something friends & I routinely did during the summer.
We’d go play at the Little League field in the morning, have lunch & go play in the afternoon until some of us had a game that night.
So I planned out the day to have a lunch break at the Hut & maybe I’d get in a game of Space invaders.
I pulled into the parking lot &… it’s only available Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Takes me back to the days when I tried to impress 15yr old girls with my video skills (I ruled Donkey Kong). But in the early 80s the arcade was kinda the new place where (pre) teens hung after watching 'War Games' or 'The Day After' (best 80s WW III adaptation).
I liked the restaurant model arcade machines as well.

Ms. Pacman table with controls at each end of the table was great for passing time while Dad knocked down beers with his friends.
Did anyone else used to play Track & Field from Konami?
It was a big favorite at the local pizza joint we used to frequent after Little League and rec soccer games. Basically the winner is the person who smashes the two buttons the fastest, which was made easier by using one of the restaurant's metal knives.
