FU: What do I follow after World Cup?

by Grantland, y'allywood, Tuesday, July 14, 2026, 12:00 (8 days ago)

I guess Premier League starts in August?

Is it accessible enough?

Doesn't NBC televise it?

I'll never walk alone.

I suggest ND football

by Busco21, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, 16:45 (7 days ago) @ Grantland

just kidding, love you all. Soccer just isn't my cup of tea. And I tried. I watched the US and rooted for them. Now let's plow through people with great anger and fortitude and punish everyone. Put you foot on your opponent's neck and believe in it. As God intended.

Signed, Unfrozen Football Coach. I don't understand the ways of this world. haha

45 days until college football starts

Although nearly all of the week 0/1 games are garbage. Still, it will mean football is back, which is all that matters.

NFL preseason starts in 22 days, but that barely counts as football.

I'd also suggest Atlanta United

but we've been so poor for so long now, I wouldn't recommend it. I used to have season tickets and it was so much fun to attend games, but I gave up my tickets this year. But, yeah, the EPL is the easiest league to follow.

They wre good a few years back, right?

Yes. Won the MLS Cup in 2018.

by Bryan (IrishCavan), Howth Castle and Environs, Tuesday, July 14, 2026, 13:58 (8 days ago) @ Grantland

We've been shit since 2021.

The Premier League is easy to follow

by HCE, Tuesday, July 14, 2026, 12:32 (8 days ago) @ Grantland

Most games are on USA or Peacock, plus some on NBC. Bundesliga, Serie A, and La Liga are all available, too, on various streaming services.

The Champions League is on Paramount+ on midweek afternoons: it's not exactly convenient for working Americans, but it is the pinnacle of the sport, far above anything you'll see at the World Cup.

If you need a more immediate fix, MLS still goes through the summer for now and will start back up soon.

I enjoy the EPL, but

by Jack @, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, 09:53 (7 days ago) @ HCE

I can't "turn on" allegiance to any team I didn't grow up with or have a connection to geographically (in my case, Chicago) or otherwise (ND).

Pick a team for that season that regularly plays...

by PMan @, The Banks of the Spokane River, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, 10:44 (7 days ago) @ Jack

an American: Fulham, Leeds, Bournemouth, Palace... Bournemouth and Palace get you some European competition, too. Europa League will have a bunch of American players, plus an American manager.

Or pick an underdog or one of the newly-promoted teams; that will get you both: Coventry City.

NBC is a gateway drug

by irishoutsider @, Tuesday, July 14, 2026, 12:38 (8 days ago) @ HCE

They make Premier League so much easier than having a local soccer bar, though maybe not as fun

If you have MLS within a reasonable distance, just go. Try it out in person and see what you think. It's well inside that NHL scenario where you just have to see it live to really "get it".

I used to record as many matches as possible on VHS

by Mark, Tuesday, July 14, 2026, 12:05 (8 days ago) @ Grantland

And then spend the month or two following watching the best matches over and over before ND kicked off their season (back a few decades ago, of course).

Not sure how long Peacock will have replays available, but there’s quite a few matches worth a re-watch.

One great thing. 90 minutes means 90 minutes give or take

10 or 15 minutes not 2-3 hours!
