in that Yellowstone corridor …

This came up in my feed yesterday. Pretty cool to see someone with money and power doing something good … I dont know much about about Ted Turner, but what he did here is really impressive.

TLDR?

- Ted bought a big cattle ranch, removed the cattle, brought in Bison. Removed the fencing/ gating/ pen areas and let the Bison just rome around the entire space.
- Predators returned, Ted said “Let them be”
- 30 years later the entire ecosystem has recovered and is thriving.
- Ted rewrote the deeds, set up his estate appropriately and donated massively to the Nature Conservancy … the land can never be developed.

According to the articles and the photographer who took the video, it was inside the campground proper with lots of people, tents, campers, and cars around, and not like the grandfather and his grandson intentionally stopped along the side of the road out in the park and got too close to a rutting bull.

The larger question is probably about big summer crowds in a massively understaffed national park during bison mating season...

They just seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

People definitely need to respect nature. I don't know if this made the news where y'all are, but this alligator attack happened in central Florida recently:

I feel bad for her and her friends and family, but these folks were stupid, and she was from Orlando too so should have known better. And I feel bad for the two gators that had to die for it. The people were invading their space.

No one who pays attention swims in Florida lakes, rivers, or springs unless they've been cleared for swimming. I live close to the Econ River and it's a pretty wild looking place. Not only do you have to worry about gators, but there are also cottonmouths, and in summer there's the possibility of the brain-eating amoeba.
