Don't love the team comparison
but this feels a little like the Miami squads right at the turn of the century. The 2000 Hurricanes lost in September at Washington by 5 points and ultimately missed out on winning the title but were slaying mofos by the end of the season. Many acknowledged that if the BCS process had given them access, they'd have beaten the champ (OU) free & clear.
Butch Davis left to coach the Browns (lol) but the '01 team was so stacked it didn't matter who was in charge (clearly). And they should have won again in 2002, barring a shit call that first placed the golden horseshoe up the Suckeyes' collective ass.
