his campaign was. Three out-of-state Sanders-loving "recruiters" decided Platner was the guy and talked him into it doing almost no research into his past. Those around Platner wanted him to stay out of the race for his own good but by then the Sanders types had convinced him he was the next Obama.

The "vetting" was a 50-page memo from a research firm that basically scanned the Internet, included no interviews with him, and said "he checks out."

Even that didn't catch the 12 years of Reddit posts minimizing rape in the military and homophobic comments.

Every time something bad came out, Platner said there was nothing more to come -- yet there was a lot of it.

I haven't given any money in the Maine Senate race and I won't unless I see some reliable polling that says it's within reach. But I think I know how this story ends. Susan Collins gets to keep being "concerned" for another 6 years.

for 20 minutes. I'll say this about the GOP; they sure know how to stick to the script.

blaming "establishment" Democrats and corporate types rather than taking some responsibility for his actions. This is not like it turned on a single accuser from 20 years ago. It's undisputed that he was sexting staffers while newly married.

Where there's this much smoke, there's a fire or two. His flat out denials are about as believable as Trump's.

So on the way out he's poisoning the well so that no Democrat can win. It's exactly what Trump will do in 2028 (but to the GOP) if he lives that long.
