I think you are right

I'd love to know how many F/Os we won during that 11-0 stretch. I think we won 1 and then turned it over immediately.

I also recall that we also were 1 and done on shots for most of that stretch.

I'm assuming Ossello was making this point with his post.

As in, Notre Dame looked like it never occurred to them that Princeton could play zone in the championship game.

Yeah, I didn't feel like the offense was truly the problem..

Our defenders seemed a half step slow and out of position the whole game. Our goalie did OK for a while despite the defense giving up some pretty clean looks. But I suspect the goal right off the faceoff kind of broke him. I don't know if we won a single first half faceoff either, for that matter. There might have been one or two where we managed to achieve a ground ball towards our offense, but I think Princeton scooped those up.

I figured that might be the case

I am guessing he had an answer

But when the defense got picked apart for 11-straight goals, I think he was more focused on that.

Plus the Princeton goalie is making almost every save.

We got outplayed

He was joking

Interesting. I've never heard anything like that in

any team sport. It's the offense's job to score within the rules and the defense's job to stop them from scoring within the rules. Nobody said it was cheating or unsportsmanlike when teams would just double that kid on BYU and dare the rest of the Cougars to try to win 4 on 3.

But know almost nothing about lacrosse other than what I've read on this board over the years.

Seems like its a rarely used strategy

Think I saw Nick Ossello, former ND laxer who religiously tweets about his alma mater during big games, mention that its considered to be something of an underhanded or frowned-upon move. But that might just be sour grapes. Like bunting to break up a no hitter or something.

The announcers said Cuse was going to and never did.

Seems like an error on their part.

Also, is ND just assuming teams won't play zone?
How does a coach of 35 years not have an answer for that?

Knocked out by the PSU zone last year

Not sure why more teams don't try it against us.

The most Michigany postscript ever.....

"If you take away the 2nd quarter then we won that game."

Truth is we were gritty outside of the 2nd quarter. We took a 3-0 lead and I thought it was going to be all Irish. Then Princeton figured out that the Irish can't really figure out their offense against a zone and went on an 11-0 run. Kudos to them. The Irish battled and never gave up but were never within any real striking distance. Wheels feel off and we couldn't rebound quickly enough to recover.

So far, no bueno.

Josh Yago is going to see to it.
