I use Canvas to pump out information to my class, links to Zoom recordings, etc.

When it comes to grading, our students use ExamSoft, which locks down their computers and just allows them to word process. I grade the printed out copies of the exams. The multiple choice is on bubble sheets which get scanned and spit out scores, statistics on questions, etc.

I also use TWEN (proprietary to West Publishing). It has online resources, practice quizzes and the like.

I insist on some redundancy so the scores aren't in the ether. I have colleagues who give exams entirely through Canvas and yesterday was not a good day.

Lost access to my Canvas courses with the hack.

However, my institution starts and ends the spring semester about a week earlier than most other places, so our grades were due this past Monday. Folks getting ready to teach summer session next week are frustrated, but it could have been so much worse for us if this all happened last week.

Didn't affect her - she had her last final on Wednesday and turned in a writing portfolio yesterday morning before starting the trip across the country. But she was hearing about it from both lots of messaging from friends and a few notices from the school. I actually feel better that it was (a) a nationwide issue and (b) a hack and not actual maintenance. By the time it was fixed, we were almost ready to sit down for a late dinner - so those kids back on the east coast were either going to study all night or have to wake up darn early.

Oh for the days of a carrel high up in the Library filled with 10-12 books at a time, writing my senior research paper for Rathburn and flipping through tabbed pages and pads of notes...

The 2007 ND-UCLA game was a once in a lifetime experience, I hope

My school's Canvas team keeps bugging me to turn my class into a Canvas class with all the course content in the LMS sliced and diced into modules and whatever else they claim as "best practice", rather than using my own course website that they denigrate as being "last century's standard".

I've been blowing them off for years, but from now instead of just silently filtering their nagging into the circular file I might actively reply that they can go shit in a hat because my course website didn't just have a disastrous failure, unlike their precious perfect for everyone's everything LMS.

No evidence that the powers that be have any questions about that move even after the breach.
