Nothing new. Actually more transparent now than Schlichter,
Hornung, and a host of others who were threatened and/or coerced by bookies (some of whom lived out their lives like schnooks).
TBC, I'm not to be flippant about this. The players need to be educated the same way professionals are when they enter the league. They are pros, so they've got to follow certain rules that the general population doesn't. Coaches need to be involved too.
I mean, c'mon!
He only bet on his own team, and only bet on them to win!!
The only issue I see with that....
is that LV is now a professional sports town.
Would still be miles better than current sitch.
This is absolutely insane
There has to be a greater penalty than some rehab.
Less than 3 years ago, 6 Iowa wrestlers were suspended. 4 were suspended the entire year. At least 2, both All Americans, had their collegiate careers ended for gambling. What were they gambling on? Women's college basketball, and specifically Caitlin Clark games.

If the guy is betting on his own team, I can't imagine a world where he gambles on his own team and can still come back from that.
I imagine all these companies
Have already dumped millions into lobbying efforts to ensure there is no congressional movement to limit access, etc. Cat is out of the bag, cow has left the barn, what have you...
Give him Bart Giamatti's Pete Rose offer at a bare minimum
As in, admit you bet, throw yourself on the mercy of the court and do everything we tell you to get reinstated, or it's a lifetime ban.
As everyone knows, Charlie Hustle infamously didn't accept the offer.
What's the line between being cynical and likley 99.9% true?

Lifetime ban for betting on his own team. No mercy.

I would find it acceptable...
to require all legal sports gambling happen in Las Vegas or, MAYBE, also Atlantic City.
It's too accessible by MILES now.

I'm sure Cody Campbell is already dumping money into
re-election funds in preparation.
And to get more specific, his own team.
Absolutely agree that the whole concept of legalized sports wagering is a disaster. But I guess if this is where we're at, really needs to decide what we're willing to choke down as "acceptable". Even if he was a RS frosh that wasn't playing, this should be an easy redline.
That should disqualify him for at least this season, right?
But even if the NCAA makes such a ruling, we all know this will end up in front of a friendly judge in West Texas who will provide some form of TRO allowing him to play.
He bet on his own team while at Indiana.

I'm glad this kid is looking for help
But I'm so suspicious of everything that Texas Tech is doing now that my first reaction to this is to think that they heard this story was about to break, so they told Sorsby to announce that he's going to rehab in an effort to try to water down whatever punishment might come from this.
Which, given the "powers" that the NCAA has currently, will probably be the lightest slap on the wrist possible.
Texas Tech QB enters rehab for gambling addiction.

We have entirely killed a good thing with this gambling shit.
