They opened one by us
And I agree. It's a really good version. And I can get a cheesesteak hoagie when I'm so inclined (a real one).
Ha! That name sounded familiar, but I couldn’t place it…
I was literally wondering what Sci-Fi book he was a character in.
In the words of Prentiss Hubb

I agree that this is the point. It's NOT a
feel-good show, though.
I think all the characters hate themselves at least as much as they like themselves.
#1 -Philly Pork with broccoli rabe on Amarosa bread,
2a and 2b a good italian beef or good french dip.
I heave yeat to have a good philly cheesesteak sandwich.
A Buffalo beef on weck needs to be on the sandwich list
I had beef wet at Mr. Beef yesterday..It was a very good ,
The fries were great. The lines were short and parking was available
There's a small chain out of NE Ohio:
The Original Steaks and Hoagies. Only 20 locations now but franchising. Definitely the best chain cheese steak I've ever had. Certainly not the scale of Jersey Mike's, which would win on sheer reach. Jersey Mikes also gets bonus points because they'll do a full gluten free prep. Separate prep area, prepackaged rolls, etc. one of the few fast food options for our Celiac daughter.
Save yourself some time and just watch Boiling Point.
The movie then the follow-on show.
They’re taking them public soon…
So you won’t have private equity to kick around anymore.
Haven't seen any effect thus far
And I know plenty of people are watching very closely to measure this. But the quality and quantity at most of the stores seems to be holding up thus far.
Probably only a matter of time though.
Better enjoy while you can - private equity bought them
Blackstone purchased Jersey Mikes in January 2025 and people are pretty upset about shrinking sizes on everything.
I'm still mad they ditched their tuna melt.

but not every episode is that frenetic
Some of my favorites are the very slow ones, with minimal dialogue and almost impressionistic vibes, atmospheric music cues, etc.
In conclusion, The Bear is a land of contrasts. Thank you.
Amen.
I think Bart is right about the intensity of the five-star restaurant kitchen. But intensity alone doesn't make a good story.

Throw em out Marianne.
The rapid-fire dialogue gets exhausting.
Accompanied by camera cuts bouncing back and forth like a damn ping pong game. It's not difficult to grasp what the director is trying to convey about the kitchen atmosphere, but when you lean comically hard into that technique over & over again, it loses impact and simply gets annoying at a certain point.
Matty Matheson and Courtney Storer are legit restaurant
people. I'd think they are in on the joke. Matheson's real-life persona is a more confident and capable version of Neil Fak.

I think the children like it when I "get down" verbally.
I actually thought the supercilliousness was well drawn
you see a lot of bravado and condescension toward "civilians" among hospitality lifers. There is a lot of performative personality extroversion.
I don't think the show creators are in on the joke on that front, but it still strikes a chord.
I think you are supposed to stop liking Carmy...
...cause like, I am not sure he likes himself...
No
As a former Chicagoan, the cinematography captured the grit and beauty of the city. I enjoyed that part. But the intensity was just too over the top. The dialogue felt like something penned by a ninth grader. At least have Carmy or his cousin come up with something other than the F bomb to convey frustration.

Throw em out Marianne.
Agree -- it's in my rotation.

I think they do a great job with most everything.
They're a cut above Firehouse, Jimmy Johns and the rest of the sandwich chain field, in my experience. I'll second what Chris said about Penn Station, though I'm not sure I've even had Mike's cheesesteak before bc they do the standard subs so well.
never heard of them
Looks like there are a few stores in St. Louis but nothing west of Missouri.
I'll check them out next time I'm back!

you know the Jersey Mike’s cheesesteak is pretty good
It’s a great roll and they do a terrific chicken cheesesteak too. Of all the large chains I think they may be the only one doing an authentic grill top cheesesteak.
Go back to St Louis.

Who wins: Italian Beef, French Dip, or Philly Cheesesteak?

it's just completely implausible
that Italian beef sandwiches could ever be good and popular.
I honestly think the payoff comes in S3
Hospitality is one of the most narcissistic industries we have and watching the grind of the everyday clash with the self image and grandeur of it all is pretty good viewing
Definitely loved S1 & most of S2 but
dropped out 2-3 episodes into S3.
I liked it better as a beef sandwich shop restaurant show & the side characters just got pushed to the side.
And I stopped liking Carmy.

If you don't have a clear next show, finish season 1
While I agree with the the below posts that the series meanders at times, it's best episodes are some of the best TV out there. I'd argue that they want the show to mirror a fine restaurant - chaotic in certain places but the final presentation is layered and superb.
I truly enjoyed the whole arc of season 1 once I finished it, so much so that I watched it again to catch moments that made more sense. I think the creators had a good plan for that season.
I loved the first two seasons…
But. You gave it five episodes. I’d agree that it’s not gonna turn on a dime for you.
I do wonder if you were to throw in the towel if the several really good single episodes be enjoyable. Maybe just commit to watching two or three more. Fishes, Forks and Review!
I do wish there were more shows that excelled at the occasional stand alone.
Probably not
If you don’t like it now, I suspect it’s not one to grow on you. 4 seasons in and it has some great single episodes, but it really hasn’t gone much of anywhere.
OT: Does The Bear get better?
Mrs. Jeff (BGS) and I are about 5 episodes into season one and we’re not feeling it. It just seems like a bunch of random chaos.
