McNeese up on Vandy late in the first half.
Nebraska won its first NCAA tournament game ever -- what?
The ending of regulation of Santa Clara-Kentucky, holy cow

A 3 by Santa Clara to go up by 3 with 7 seconds left in regulation, followed by a Kentucky 3 with 0.2 seconds left from almost half court - off the glass, no less. And then Kentucky pretty much handled them in OT.
First appearance by Santa Clara in 30 years, over in a heartbreaker.
Santa Clara got screwed.

Sendek was begging for a TO after they made the shot to go up three at the end of regulation. Three different officials missed it.
But they apparently saw UK calling for one

for the two-tenths of a second when the Mildcats possessed the ball in a scrum a couple of plays earlier.
No CBB team does less with more than motherfucking Kentucky, and I include in that regular goodwill from officials. They're still the same shitty, can't-shoot-their-way-out-of-a-paper-bag team they've been for years. I look forward to watching Iowa State light them on fire Sunday.

And you'd think the Huskers won the national championship.
by omahadomer, Thursday, March 19, 2026, 19:06 (71 days ago) @ Bryan (IrishCavan)
They were one of very few power conference teams to have never won an NCAA game. They were a 3 seed once under Nee but got upset by Xavier.
I hope order is restored next year.

Nee was Digger's assistant when I was at ND

including for our still only Final Four appearance.
But maybe his bigger claim to fame was he was a high school teammate of the then Lew Alcindor.
Speaking of Xavier beating Nebraska

I was at the game. We made a bet with some Husker fans in a bar pregame. Loser buys pitchers. We won. They made good on the bets and gave us their better full session seats for the next game. Just gave them to us poor starving students. Great folks!
I think we got smoked by UConn in the next game.
One of my best college memories.
One of the best college bball games I've ever attended

was when Xavier beat Georgetown in the 1990 NCAA tournament in Indianapolis. Xavier had Jamal Walker, Tyrone Hill, and Derek Strong (as well as one of my best friends who was a walk on). Georgetown had Mourning and Mutombo.
I’ll bet I know your friend

That was my sophomore year. I think that is 1st or 2nd biggest win in Xavier history. I think it was a Sunday because I vaguely remember being in a state of recovery.
That was a great season.
Wouldn't surprise me

given the size of Xavier. His cousin played basketball for ND and was pretty good.
What a brave effort by Siena --
by omahadomer, Thursday, March 19, 2026, 19:03 (71 days ago) @ Bryan (IrishCavan)
they are coached by Gerry McNamara (the former Syracuse guard) and he kept his starters in the game for all but the last 10 seconds. I thought Siena got jobbed being a 16 seed and certainly didn't deserve to have to play the overall #1 seed.
Duke got a major wake-up call.

They only had 7 scholarship players available.

Siena was down to seven scholarship players available to play by Thursday and was especially depleted in the frontcourt. Its starting center entering the season, Tasman Goodrick, has been out since December with a knee injury. Another key frontcourt player, Antonio Chandler, was ruled ineligible by the NCAA just prior to the MAAC tournament after uncovering an issue with his eligibility clock. Deep down the bench, 6' 8" Tajae Jones hasn’t played since November and is expected to redshirt. The Saints’ two starting frontcourt players, Folefac and Mulvey, had played monster minute loads in the MAAC tournament because of it, including each putting in a marathon 40 minutes in the MAAC title game against Merrimack. This wasn’t foreign to them, and McNamara had proof of concept that it could work.
The two remaining available reserves were a pair of freshmen: 5' 11" Christian Jones and 6' 6" Isaiah Henderson, both perimeter players. Neither has lit it up in their limited action: Jones shot 32% from the field on the season, Henderson just 35%.
