There better be a reach around feature.

Think about how much time you will spend on it.
I think it’s smart to invest in things like beds toilets and showers.
Agreed

It's honestly life-changing,
in a very weird a-ha kind of revelation. . It's also materially better for the environment.
The heated seat alone might be worth the value to some, particularly in the winter
I just had to google this…
It will clean you with a bidet. Then blow-dry you with warm air.
No TP needed. (This feature will be handy in the next COVID pandemic.)
It will also deodorize.
So, literally, you’re shit won’t stink.
I mean, there kind of is

Exactly, for 3 grand there better be a wipe feature included
At least then it'd arouse my curiosity.
Three grand for a potty?? For what?

When you sit on your Toto, you'll know there's no place
like home.
This is my concern
Too much "tech" on a basic item is asking for expenses down the line. What happens if/when the detection mechanism goes bad?
The repair costs on that could likely buy you two great conventional toilets.
IMO, toilets are one of those household KISS items.
My toilet is going to Cal Poly on a football scholarship.
This town is dying.
Seconded.

They are all fighting our wars.

I don't think toilets should need an advanced degree
What happened to the days where a toilet could graduate high school and still get a good paying job to support a family of four
This is my concern, as well.

Why else would it go into that line of work?

I didn't realize my toilet was dumb

We are doing a bathroom remodel right now
It’s crazy how expensive it got. Ultimately the $3k toilet was going to be like $15k on the bottom line bc of electric & labor and stuff, so we passed, but I still want to go back and add it later. (Designer/remodel math is weird and I think intentionally so. Every choice ends up adding 3-4x the materials cost!)
Having been to Japan, they’re pretty cool. If it can be done in a way that makes sense in your layout I say go for it.
I don't know anything about smart toilets,
but I highly recommend getting bidets. We got one on a whim, but we loved it so much that we added them to our other toilets. May sound funny, but you won't regret it. :-)
We have two purchased 10yrs ago
when we bought the house and demolished almost everything.
They've been absolutely fantastic. Neither has ever backed up or given the slightest problem. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Addendum - Neither is a smart toilet. Ours are water conserving models.
Get a Toto
You won’t regret it. But you don’t need the highest end one.
OT: Smart toilets
We are about to embark on a bathroom remodel. It has been suggested I might like having this option. Any thoughts/Recs? Not looking to go crazy as I see I can spend 300-3K, but it’s now or never.
