we added another writer to BGS, kevin

by Jay @, San Diego, Thursday, February 19, 2009, 09:29 (6082 days ago)

The occasion caused me to look back through the BGS archives, specifically at the articles abandoned in "draft" mode over the years.

We have 157 posts still sitting in various stages of draft going back to 2004. Some were simply placeholders or reminders. Others, half-assed efforts that never got off the ground. Still others are good ideas just waiting to blossom.

It's like rummaging through some crazy person's attic.

I've been meaning to dust off that "Running on Empty" post. With all the talk about needing improvements in the running game lately, it's actually probably more timely now then when I started it.

What's scary...

by domer.mq ⌂ @, Thursday, February 19, 2009, 12:03 (6082 days ago) @ Jay

is that is just a list of stuff you didn't post.

Our list of things we haven't posted in the last 2 years totals, I think, 8.

I don't know where you guys get the time.

Speaking of old stuff...

by Kevin @, Thursday, February 19, 2009, 10:59 (6082 days ago) @ Jay

What in the hell was he thinking?

(Warning: bad language follows. This is an R-rated post -- please skip it if you are sensitive. If you choose to read it, please picture Chevy Chase in Vacation, or Steve Martin at the rental car counter in Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and you should get the sense and tone of my exasperation here. Mom, I'm sorry.)

BUG-EYED mad. Pissed off. Spitting bullets. Even after a night of sleeping on it, I wake up supremely angry. Maybe even angrier than when I went to sleep. So mad I can't even see straight.

I can't figure it out. You have a chance to WIN THE GAME IN REGULATION and you just pass on it....

I think that was the only post we ever put back on the shelf

after it hung out there for a day. It seemed like a good idea in the morning; by the evening, I was rethinking things. Then my actual mom actually did post a comment in the thread taking me to task.

Luckily Brian Cook thought he was being cool by copying and pasting it to mgoblog and then going off in some geektastic orgasm about how "you can't put the internet back in the bottle stupid BGSers!!1"

If only Brian understood the internet...

enough to look up and see that Matt Lovechio didn't play QB for Ty.

do you still read him regularly?

by Jay @, San Diego, Thursday, February 19, 2009, 14:17 (6081 days ago) @ domer.mq

I admit I dropped off over a year ago.

We get a lot of e-mails every time...

by domer.mq ⌂ @, Thursday, February 19, 2009, 19:32 (6081 days ago) @ Jay

he mentions ND in any way.

Guess we made ourselves the resident MGoBlog cattle prod or something.

I dunno, it's sort of a fun shtick.

I do read his AOL or Yahoo stuff a lot, whichever it is. It pops up in the various RSS feed I built using Yahoo Pipes to search the net for news. The national stuff is at least fairly prolific.

how do you like using Yahoo Pipes?

by Pat, Friday, February 20, 2009, 07:06 (6081 days ago) @ domer.mq

I haven't built any pipes, but the idea is pretty interesting.

I like it pretty well...

by domer.mq ⌂ @, Friday, February 20, 2009, 08:56 (6081 days ago) @ Pat

It's a bit tricky sometimes. A lot of trial and error, really, but you'll get the hang of it. The only thing I don't like is that there isn't a "really advanced" option that would let me define certain things with some strong knowledge of scripting or something.

If you want, I think they let you share pipes. I can share a couple I use so you can take a look. Let me know.

if you don't mind, that would be great

by Pat, Friday, February 20, 2009, 09:09 (6081 days ago) @ domer.mq

I don't really plan on setting any up for BGS, but I'm interested to see how you implemented them. It's a neat idea.

I only read his defensive breakdowns

by Spesh ⌂ @, Los Angeles, Thursday, February 19, 2009, 14:42 (6081 days ago) @ Jay

and that's only for the few games before they play us. After that, I don't read him at all.

I'll poke my head in very occasionally.
