Rugby isn't perfect when it comes to refereeing, but the replay situation is more tolerable because (at least on TV) you can hear the referee and replay official discuss the call. So two things: 1) As a viewer, you still feel somewhat engaged and 2) You can actually understand what they're looking at to make the call.

I'd also say that the total lack of any accountability mechanism hurts. When refs make egregious mistakes (that might be game-altering), the reaction seems to be shrugging acceptance.
