That was infuriating
ND clearly had a play lined up and the refs stopped play for no discernible reason AND allowed substitution for NC State even though we had made no subs.
Yet another terrible call. Bevacqua really needs to take on the refereeing problem. Particularly when Kirby Smart is playing fast and loose with the refs while chairing the NCAA Rules Committee.
The failure to call an obvious incompletion what it was
is perhaps the worst (non) use of replay I've seen. There just was no case under which that was a case.
“Ball not appropriately spotted”
may be the most ACC ref call of the game.
2 games in a row, those ACC refs all need to be fired. Really poor performance by the reffing crew.
And the entire stadium knew it.

"2020 ... Let's win it all ..."
It's a heads up move.
If we have credible offensive personnel on the field and don't substitute, we don't have to allow them the opportunity to sub. A bunch of net positive outcomes: force them to burn a TO, catch them subbing and get an offside/12-men penalty and steal a free 5 yards, or get a favorable setup for another play. I actually suspect we had some easy Buchner RPO called. Either there's some deep shot open or he runs it.
On the broadcast, I heard it was something about the ball not being appropriately spotted.
Play after the fake punt?
I was in the stadium for the game yesterday (not sure I’ve ever seen that stadium as ugly angry as it was in the first half), and after Buchner secured the first down on the fake punt, that unit immediately lined up for a second play. It got whistled dead but there was no time out called, so not completely sure what happened there. But the end result was that we just trotted out the usual offense after that.
Also curious what the heck they might have cooked up there.
