BGS takes Mike Anello, punt gunner
We're going to let our kicker handle punts with Mr. Anello tackling the returner the second he touches the ball.
BGS is up to pick their punter/Mr. Irrelevant, 2009
And now we know what sort of value BGS places on Special Teams. VaTech, they are not.
--
Sometimes I rhyme slow sometimes I rhyme quick.
Well, well done then.
Because, yeah. I was going to take him.
Oh, and you've got Havili already. Dang it.
I take Owen Marecic, "one of the best run- blocking fullbacks in the country." Says so on Stanford's website, so it must be true.
And like that, I go from pass-happy to hard-nosed. Bring it.
--
Sometimes I rhyme slow sometimes I rhyme quick.
I hope I choose the guy you want.
Duval Kamara, WR ND.
You're actually up now, 16th and final pick.
We're just picking one for the final round.
Some picked 3 last round because they had 3 slots to fill that no other GM had to fill, so that just made things more efficient. You and I are still "competing" over a 2nd offensive flex guy. Choose wisely.

Should I toss in an additional pick? I have an Off. Flex position open.

Sometimes I rhyme slow sometimes I rhyme quick.
sounds good
I think Luck might turn out to be pretty good, but I can certainly see with going with Frazer for writeup purposes. That's what we basically did for Jeshua Anderson. I had no idea WSU has a WR who is a two-time NCAA sprint champ and will only be a junior in the fall.
I picked the one of most interest to Irish fans.
I think.
Forcier, Robinson, Sheridan. Yuck.
Cousins, Nichols, Maxwell at MSU. No thanks.
I don't know who is left at BC.
Andrew Luck at Stanford, if he beats out Pritchard?
Lopina at WSU?
Stull and Bostick at Pitt?
Ugly.
Rakes have their picks in. domer.mq is up.

Pre-emptive strike
I have the last remaining pick in all three of the positions I still need to draft (2nd Guard, 2nd CB and SS). I am going to be in a cabin in northern Minnesota from today until Sunday so I'm just gonna put my picks in now.
2nd Guard: John Bender, Jr., Nevada
2nd CB: Kris Evans, Sr., Stanford
SS: Dom DeCicco, Jr., Pittsburgh
Great draft, all!
Joe's up. Also...
If I or Rakes take too long for our next turns, you can just skip ahead because we're both a bit busy and we need positions that nobody else needs to fill. Thanks.

it seems that way for a lot of positions
Look at CB. ND has had 3 corners taken. That position is weak everywhere else, even at USC. It's a down year for them.
Look at DT. We had a tough time picking through the trash.
Ditto FS/SS. And even OT.
I'm sure some of it is psychosomatic, but...
this really does seem like a sparse year in terms of opposing QB quality.

Brown is still quite lite.
I think he's 275 or something like that.
I think I'm finding a new way to guess at the success of OL coaches in college based on resume. How many good blind-side tackles have they coached up from "nothing?"
--
Sometimes I rhyme slow sometimes I rhyme quick.
how many of those guys were recruited as OTs?
Alonzo Durham was a DT in high school.
So was Butch Lewis.
Brown is listed as an OT on Rivals, but he was only 249 lbs when he hit the Nike camp.
Marinelli was an OT.
Young and Duncan were OTs.
Duncan is the 8th tackle taken.
Wasn't really tracking that, but it's notable, I think. Granted, he's the 8th of both RT and LTs.
I've been thinking more lately about the discussion somewhere (I think Rock's) about whether very good LTs can usually be found in recruiting, or if they need to be coached up. I've never really given it much thought, but I'm starting to lean towards coaching up.

So, no big deal.
5th Rd, 5th pick: Brett Swenson, PK, MSU... Ok, now...
1) Yeah, a kicker. I just checked the stats, Top 30 kicker last year, and several other 2009 opponents had higher rated PAT kickers last year, but they were all seniors. Boo Yah!
2) PMan, I'm gonna keep using this thread as a courtesy to the board readers/users who aren't doing the draft, as Jay requested. I hope you don't mind. I know it's a little hard to track. I think you can also get a notification from google each time I update the draft sheet. That might make it easier.
3) Okay, now we're going to start 2 picks per GM turn from the 6th round on. I'll update the sheet to make it track.

With the start of Round 6 (check the sheet), we'll start doing 2 picks per GM at a time to speed this up a bit. And I'll try to sort out a good time for a Chat-based pick in the meantime to finish it off completely, but I think 2 picks at a time might suffice.

Sorry. I screwed up.
And forgot about the serpentine system. Hopefully the way I set it up on the spreadsheet isn't too unacceptable to everyone. I don't think anyone will get the shaft, as we've only got 5 GMs picking, so the talent pool will be pretty deep for everyone.
--
Sometimes I rhyme slow sometimes I rhyme quick.
My fault. But let's just go with the rotation...
I've set up in the spreadsheet. I did say at some point we'd go with serpentine, and then totally forgot. Sorry. Since we're doing 5 GMs, I don't think anyone will be scraping the bottom of the barrel. Sorry about the confusion.
--

Sorry. Been working and away from e-mail.
Taylor Mays, safety, Southern California.
I'll manage all picks under this thread.
I'll open each round in a new subthread under the first post.
If each GM clicks the E-mail notification checkbox for each of their picks, that'll make it that much easier for you to keep track of the draft.
Thanks.
--
Sometimes I rhyme slow sometimes I rhyme quick.
Yes. All ND players and opposition roster players...
are available in the draft. I'll edit the rules.
And that's the same approach I was going to user, Joe. I'm drafting based on putting together a team for 2009. An excellent point. I suppose I should have outlined that before. I'd encourage everyone to approach in the same way.
Thanks.
--
Sometimes I rhyme slow sometimes I rhyme quick.
That's correct, I believe.
The other thing that's knocking around in my mind is the reasoning behind your draft strategy. Instead of treating this like a fantasy football draft (where player values are sometimes misconstrued based upon schedule, scoring, and any number or other variables), I'm treating this as if I'm starting a college football team that will only be active this year -- who do I want my starting lineup to be?
So, I'm considering intangibles while drafting. Are others doing this as well? Or am I the only one?
for drafters, I would recommend bookmarking this thread
If all the draft picks are made as replies here, it shouldn't clutter the rest of the board.
One thing to clarify: the universe of players includes Notre Dame plus all ND opponents, right?
Jimmy Clausen goes #1 in Draft. Classic Ground is up.

Let the 2009 ND vs. Opposition Draft Begin... Joe you're up
Again, sorry for the delay.
This might take a little bit to get some momentum going, but let's just get started.
The link below is to a spreadsheet with rules, draft order, and a sheet I'll use to track picks.
So, Joe, you're up with the first pick of the first round. I'll just keep checking the board to usher the progress of the draft.
Also, I was thinking about doing a periodic update of the draft on HLS. Just a list of the GMs and their picks, maybe after each round. No writeups. Just something to get some attention and debate going among readers so that when GMs do write up their thoughts on their picks, we might have some momentum there. If anyone objects, let me know, and I'll refrain.
Thanks.
Joe, when you're ready, please enter your pick under this post. Thanks.
