Some personal experience

As a student manager, I was SHOCKED at how many resources became available to me once I entered my junior year. I could get tutoring for anything I wanted at no charge. And I mean anything.

I only had a couple of struggles in my time there at ND, including one EE class that just destroyed me. I thought it was a long shot to ask for a tutor for something that specialized, but I was desperate for help.

They didn't initially have a tutor, but they told me they'd look for one. I shit you not, they found someone within the week.

Now if they were able to dig up someone for something that specialized, I can only imagine what they are able to do for more popular classes.

As far as the actual athletes, it was clear that the classroom wasn't just a concern outside the athletic department. Weis would call out people slacking in the class room in front of everyone. He touted GPA success in his speeches when practice ended.

They work hand-in-hand to make damn sure these guys have every chance to succeed and it shows. The private study rooms and computer labs for the athletes were always full from people in nearly every sport including football.

It's a culture thing. You build your school like a football factory and it's a football factory. You build it like an institution that gives a damn about success on and off the field and it'll happen.
