why is everyone so ga-ga over the offer to Lueders?
Is it just because he's (relatively) local?

He's a nice player, but he was clearly down the list of DE that we were looking at. I like him because he can play multiple positions but the uproar about him not having an offer was just ridiculous. Now that he has one I think he'll probably commit in short order. That's the real truth people want to offer kids they know will commit.

...who allow their opinions to be dictated by a small group of others who don't know jack shit about how to evaluate football players.
Which is not to say that I know how to evaluate them, either, but I'll be damned if I'm going to get up in arms about the lack of an offer 11 months prior to NSD. Utter fracking madness.

I suspect A Certain Poster has proclaimed that Leuders has what they call "IT" and that other offered prospects (possibly including Chance Carter) do not and that his disciples will be repeating these views frequently in the coming months.

"Butch Davis don't need to go to Indiana to find defensive linemen and he don't offer just anyone!"
... I'm happy he got his offer because I think he's equivalent to some of the other guys we've offered at the position, and all things being equal I'm happy to take an equivalent player from just down the road rather than one who is more likely to realize Indiana isn't Southern California and bolt.
But I recognize that for many -- and just like T. Goethel and P. Pozderic and B. Nagel and W. Reuland before him -- some of the allure is certainly just the fact that he's a guy they can relate to who they think likes ND and would be a good gritty guy to claim to love to root for. Unfortunately, those good gritty guys to root for get passed on the depth chart like John Ryan, Robby Parris, and Paddy Mullen and then people start griping about "wasted scholarships" and "lack of evaluation" and "lack of development" and the like.

that ND hoops fans accepted Colin Falls despite all of his shortcomings, and nitpicked every negative thing Russell Carter ever did on a basketball court.
