MLB should do that in regular games.
It beats watching the last guys in the bullpens trying to keep ghost runners from scoring

It would be kind of a pain in the ass to drag out the l-screens and have the managers deliberate over who would be batting.

But baseball always likes to baseball.

It appears Boone and Roberts hands were tied as several of the removed players showered, did interviews and went home (that included Judge and Raleigh and Ohtani) so they were left with the players on the bench.

Why not just replace the game with a HR contest?
Me, I want to see pitchers hit. If the HR contest is between pitchers, then I'm all for it. Same with college football. A FG shootout might be ok, but only if we get to see the offensive lineman kick the ball.

First, just on principle, which I shouldn't have to explain. It's not baseball, it's batting practice.
But from a practical standpoint, it's grossly unfair, overfavoring power-hitting teams, and takes pitching completely out of the game.
Case in point: the Blue Jays are in first place in the AL East by 2 games right now. Their leading home run hitter is George Springer with 16 home runs at the break. Say they're playing the Yankees. That's the guy you want to put up against Aaron Freaking Judge??
I don't care about it an All-Star game - it's sure better than a tie - but it should never EVER be used in a game that counts.
I hate the ghost runner (aka the Manfred Man), but it's still actual baseball.

For real it’s a great addition to the ASG.
I assume Vladito is gonna get his power back for the Jays
