late to the Woke Superman party

by Jay, San Diego, (264 days ago)

Saw the movie last night, and can't figure out why MAGAheads are banging on it. Was really expecting something much more over the top and preachy based on the backlash I've been reading about.

Mike Francesa hated it.

"He spends the first half of the movie getting beat up by everybody. I thought Jimmy Olsen was going to take a shot at him!"

"That's not what people want to see from the Man of Steel"

Has Jerry Seinfeld weighed in?

I guess it comes from Superman as immigrant, or something?

by Jay, San Diego, (264 days ago) @ San Pedro

I mean his parents did send him here for chances at a better life. As far as I can tell he was raised in the rural midwest, worked hard, got a job, paid his taxes, voted, and loved America. Yeah he wears his undies on the outside but that's hardly a deportable offense.

Not today, mind you. Not today.

Superman is probably a top 10 immigrant.

by San Pedro, More than 100 feet from Bob Davies, (264 days ago) @ Jay

He's always struggled with his identity - his status as a legitimate alien is a central theme of the character.

he's also a journalist. double whammy

That’s a good line on Jimmy Olson

by Jack, (264 days ago) @ San Pedro

For me to watch a superhero movie, it’s got to be really, really good, and there certainly have been some that fit the bill. But if he’s right, I’m not sure if I’ll bother. Who wants a wimpy Superman?

I follow a twitter account that tracks Francesa

by San Pedro, More than 100 feet from Bob Davies, (264 days ago) @ KGB

It's terrific. Just a great combo of modern day nonsense and the classic Francesa moments. "Mike is incensed when a caller asks how Mickey Mantle won the triple crown without being a horse."

My 10yo and I really dug it.

I am not a comic book fan, but I really liked the brighter tone than the previous iterations. And I appreciated how they mostly skip the origin story stuff. Just jumped into the action. Expected to hate the dog. Loved the dog.

We liked it a lot. And as dog owners for many years, we also really liked Krypto!

Is it too mature for a 7 year old boy

by San Pedro, More than 100 feet from Bob Davies, (264 days ago) @ domer.mq
edited by San Pedro,

with a penchant for bathroom humor?

I am hoping to take the whole family but 7 seems quite young for PG-13.

I'm surprised it's PG-13

Buncha snowflakes in the rating agency, I guess. It's quite tame.
