I took a look at our favorite alignments in 2012 based on Pat's gamecharting (link above). This is charting through Stanford (excluding FSU).

Here's how it breaks down:

Overall

3-4-4 28%
4-2-5 25%
4-3-4 24%
3-3-5 14%
4-1-6 4%
3-2-6 3%
Others 3%

Extra DBs?

4 DBs 53%
5 or 6 47%

Fronts?

3-man 45%
4-man 55%

Just a count of the number of times players blitzed:

20 Teo
13 Slaughter
11 Fox
11 H. Smith
10 Calabrese
5 Gray
3 Collinsworth
2 Blanton

(No blitzes from Motta)

just a word of warning

I wouldn't put too much faith in the blitz numbers because normally I was focused more on who was on the field and probably missed some blitzes here and there. I tried to err on the side of not counting them.

for those playing at home, that's 75 blitzes total

all season, not including the FSU game.

To put this in perspective, in 2009, under Jon Tenuta, we blitzed 101 times -- in the Michigan State game alone.

Thanks, Jamoris.
