Chan gone as well
by BPH, San Diego, Thursday, January 23, 2025, 12:28 (14 days ago) @ hobbs
So that's five OL out (four transfers plus Baker) and four coming in as freshmen. It leaves 15 overall, which is pretty much the ideal number. As long as we keep everyone else, we'll be in excellent shape with starters and still pretty solid shape with depth.
Idiot ND posters are out there like whack-a-mole today.

How the fuck do these people cope in their real lives? Kind of terrifying to me, tbh.

You can’t fix stupid.
The players and parents read this stuff. I’m sure they get used to it and know it’s sort of the same everywhere but it’s maddening.
When he was announced out for year there was some grumbling

"Oh, he has a case of draftstatusitis", comparisons with Hamilton's injury that everyone pretty well acknowledges he could've come back from, etc. But as it began to leak what his surgery was I thought that quieted down.
I get that people liked his personality and his seeming vibe about being a "regular ND student", etc., but are people really surprised/upset he's leaving to be a 1st/2nd round pick?

because they didn't shell out to avoid having literally anyone going into the portal. So much for that huge NIL budget!!" Or worse yet blaming guys like Spindler and Coogan for taking some huge windfall payout from another school, as if that's even the primary reason for their departure.
The lack of self-awareness about how fortunate we've been with the loyalty & dedication shown by players as well as coaches is beyond the pale.
Don't know how you guys stand that board
by BPH, San Diego, Thursday, January 23, 2025, 13:57 (14 days ago) @ KGB
Often I'm just scrolling to see if there's a response from staff, you, JD or one of the remaining very few posters whose opinions I value.
I will probably stop beating my head against that wall
by KGB, Belly o. the Beast, Friday, January 24, 2025, 06:52 (14 days ago) @ BPH
here before long. I was morbidly curious about how much some real legitimate success might change the standing mood. And I do think it's improved a bit, but there are still too many deeply stupid, irrational folks who absolutely must have their oompa-loompa NOW, 365 days a year, and are oblivious to the challenges which every single school now encounters. To listen to dim shitbirds who call themselves Irish fans drag people like Golden or Coogan who have given so much of themselves to this thing that I love just grinds my fuckin gears.
At least it was only a few malcontents who were shouted down

Which paysite do you favor
by JD in Portland , Portland OR, Thursday, January 23, 2025, 15:18 (14 days ago) @ BPH
I’ve been loyal to ISD because I respect Mike and the staff, esp Jamie U who is outstanding. However, the quality of the member posts is so bad. Was never great but now it’s borderline unbearable. It has an Ignore Poster feature that helps a bit but doesn’t make the threads actually become any good.
One in 10 posts is worth reading and there are also some real assholes there.
KGB keeps em in line a bit though!
I haven’t read NDN in years when they went off the deep end on Jack and were so much the angry white guy Fox News of ND football, but I doubt it’s much worse than ISD now.
I do like reporters and inside info though. Which board is good? I won’t read that bigot and prick Driscoll. I of course loved the old B&G in print but they didn’t write well.
I probably should save time, money and stay just here since everything lands here within 2 hrs and sometimes 2 minutes
Honestly, NDN is pretty good now.

I went back for the women’s soccer and basketball discussion. Best site for that.
Rock’s has mellowed a good bit, probably due to the departures of Kelly and Swarbrick and the good vibes of Freeman. Also, some of the real a-holes are gone.
I peaked in today and Andrew had a really decent post.

There are a few guys on the 24/7 board that have some interesting insights, but you have to wade thru a lot of junk to find it.
Agreed, mostly

The paid ND boards are worthwhile for staff content and if you want to support the guys reporting on ND. But the quality of the board discussion seems generally terrible. Lots of whining, uninformed content to wade through. It's full of guys like your crazy 80-year-old uncle who is always a fan of the backup QB. Mediocre forum software does not help, but I think it's a function of the audience that is willing to pay for forum content -- skews older retired guys who have nothing better to do and don't have a lot of social media experience to bring from other venues.
NDN is OK for breaking news, but I left years ago as a poster and don't regret that decision. It's the Truth Social of ND football.
Honestly about the best CFB content these days, by a long ways, is r/cfb. It's well-moderated and sticks to football, and the sheer volume of content means most ND stuff gets covered. They don't put up with nonsense. It's not always at great depth but the YouTube crowd (guys like Austin Brooks) can provide that better than any forum.
The reddit ND boards are not at critical mass and not worth a ton of time.
I rather enjoy this board, and am thankful to the sponsors for keeping it going.
NDN's UI is now so littered with ads it's impossible to read

by beattherush , Chicago, Friday, January 24, 2025, 08:49 (13 days ago) @ IrishGuard
If a site has a pay model and I value the content I have no problem paying for it, and do in many cases.
But I see no reason to enable the adware industry to install spyware on my computer, and if your business model is dependent on that, well you might want to rethink that model.

Same as you, because I really value the staff and content. But I have very little patience for the message board and only post a few times per year.

I was just saying that I could imagine a case where he doesn't see an NFL career in the offing and would have a pretty damn high quality of life being paid like a starter or nearly so to be the first off the bench IOL, lockerroom leader, etc.
But I totally get (a) wanting to start somewhere, either because you think you can take a run at the NFL or because playing football is fun and this is your last chance in life, and (b) that there may be places that are willing to give pretty substantial money, even I wouldn't have expected it for a non-star at a non-glamour position.
I have no hard feelings whatsoever if he heads off as a grad transfer to play his final season in what he sees as the best situation for him.

If only to show the NFL he was completely recovered from his hip injury. As it is, we only had him about as long as we had Kyle Hamilton.
sounds like Coogan as well

I think value proposition wise, we should pay to retain him as 6th man / leader and be able to pay competitively with what other places would offer for a slightly-above-replacement-level interior OL.
But maybe he just wants to start. That's a thing.

I wish him well as long as he doesn't transfer to UM
by BPH, San Diego, Thursday, January 23, 2025, 09:22 (14 days ago) @ hobbs
Hopefully somewhere like Pitt where his dad played, or MSU.
If given a choice, I definitely would have preferred to keep Coogan over Spindler.
The picture for next season is starting to clarify. Realistically, seven players for five spots.
Coogan
Schrauth
Wagner
Jagusah
Knapp
Craig
Lambert
I hope more that he doesn't go to his pops' alma mater
by Jack , Thursday, January 23, 2025, 10:21 (14 days ago) @ BPH
We play Pitt this year.
And I doubt he'd start at Michigan anyway.
Make that 6. Coogan in portal as well
by GloveND, Thursday, January 23, 2025, 09:27 (14 days ago) @ BPH
I really hoped he'd be a guy that with a NIL package could be a super sub (or possible starter) at C or G. Our starting 5 will be good next year, but will be very green if we hit injuries again. First back ups look like inexperienced Lambert at T or Abshar at G.
Will Freeman look toward the portal for OL then?

Still plenty of linemen on the roster.
by Romulox, Thursday, January 23, 2025, 09:35 (14 days ago) @ Bryan (IrishCavan)
These guys are leaving because younger guys are ahead of them on the depth chart, presumably. Don't think they need to go to the portal at this point.

DEFINITELY GOOD PLAYERS
Knapp, Jagusah, Scrauth, Craig, Wagner
SEEM LIKE THEY COULD BE PRETTY GOOD
Lambert, Prescod, Will Black (Maybe)
UNKNOWN
Everyone Else
Absher is definitely Tier 2. He's certainly ahead of Prescod
by BillyGoat, At Thanksgiving with Joe Bethersontin, Thursday, January 23, 2025, 09:58 (14 days ago) @ Mike (bart)
and Black, with good versatility to boot. He's often forgotten in these discussions, but could be a significant part of the group.
He's probably the "backup interior guy"
by Jeremy (WeIsND), Offices of Babip Pecota Vorp & Eckstein, Thursday, January 23, 2025, 10:52 (14 days ago) @ BillyGoat
In the same way that Lambert is the backup tackle guy.
I really like Prescod's potential coming out of high school. Hopefully he makes a full recovery from that injury and we can see him start taking steps this spring.
