OT: Thai boys soccer team rescue underway
As of 6:00 AM PT Sunday, 4 have been evacuated successfully.
Teams of 2 expert cave divers are each extracting a single kid, in what amounts to an 11 hour round trip for them under extremely harrowing and dangerous conditions. Having recently been caving not too far away in Vietnam, I can appreciate the toll this must take on both the boys and divers, while adding in diving through ridiculously tight crevices which force the divers to push their air tanks ahead of them in zero visibility, fast moving water. What these divers at doing is absolutely nuts.
Time is critical here, as Monsoon rains are occurring right now, adding more water to the escape route, plus the cave location is rapidly running out of oxygen. One Thai diver has already perished, as he ran out of air himself after delivering additional oxygen tanks further along the route.
