OT - Michael Flynn to plead guilty to lying to the FBI

The charge carries a 5yr penalty.

I’m not the best at this

by APND02 ⌂ @, Winston-Salem, NC, Saturday, December 02, 2017, 11:43 @ Jay

So maybe it is pot calling kettle black.

But sometimes saying nothing at all is 1000-percent smarter than saying - literally - anything.

Someone elected to be our president should understand that distinction.

by Samari, Bahston, Friday, December 01, 2017, 13:54 @ domer.mq

Even with the guys who have simply been indicted, there are a whole lot of charges that haven't been brought up and he's been sharing the details of them with state AGs. A presidential pardon can't protect them against state charges.

And the only way Mueller would make a deal is if he had serious dirt on someone higher in the govt. than him, which would be Pence and/or Trump.

So far we’ve heard Trump, Kushner, and KT Tunstall

by Ken Fowler, Friday, December 01, 2017, 14:00 @ Jim (fisherj08)

Who knows, maybe it was all three? But it seems like Mueller is running a tight ship and the reporters are probably relying on sources who are making educated guesses, not statements with full knowledge.

in fact I liked 'Black Horse and the Cherry Tree' but I seriously doubt that she got caught up in the Russia probe. I think you meant KT McFarland who served as deputy NSA early in the Trump administration.

That's still somewhat of an innocuous statement.

by Bill, Southern California, Friday, December 01, 2017, 09:42 @ Jim (fisherj08)

There are, after all, 'legitimate reasons' why a Presidential-elect might initiate contact with a foreign power. I'm not saying that's the case here, but I'd like to hear more about what was behind this before jumping to any conclusion.

Jumping to conclusions

by JN @, Seattle, Friday, December 01, 2017, 09:50 @ Bill

about whether Flynn is really going to help or whether Trump is really guilty of colluding with Russia? I'm not sure one of those is a "jump" as much as it is a "we're already at this conclusion."

IMO, we're only seeing 10% of the iceberg

by hobbs, San Diego, Friday, December 01, 2017, 09:48 @ Bill

I suspect that were're hearing today isn't the headliner of what Flynn has said to investigators. It makes no sense to lead with aces right off. Mueller is putting this out to create pressure legal and psychology pressure on others to talk.

Flynn knows a hell of a lot and this IMO is just a taste.

Yep. Also, in order to be able to sell impeachment to the

public, there needs to be evidence so simple and direct that everybody in the country except for maybe Trump's most ardent supporters can't possibly deny that removing him from office is 100% the right thing to do. We don't have that yet. We have a bunch of circumstantial evidence (which I know is still evidence). But in order to have credibility, this needs to be clearly something other than a partisan witch hunt (I know that it is, but that needs to be clear to the "American people").

Flynn's gotta be an interesting witness...

by domer.mq ⌂ @, Friday, December 01, 2017, 10:09 @ BillyGoat

On the one hand, dude was definitely one of Trump's highest profile campaign members and ardent supporters. An absolute MAGA-head. And obviously a big fan of Richard Spencer brand alt-right. On the other, most "rational" people could smell the insane on him from 2 miles out. So if Flynn now says Trump was directing efforts at "collusion" or whatever, who will believe him?

then it would probably fall outside executive immunity. But that could be arguable and would undoubtedly be litigated all the way up.

I believe there is a zero chance of Trump resigning. His narcissism won't allow it.

To get him out, he will be removed, and it is vital to the future of the nation that efforts to remove him be clearly other than partisan politics -- better yet, not even arguably partisan politics by the most partisan conservative voices. Otherwise, I worry about a "you impeached our guy, so now we're going to impeach yours" situation, and impeachment-pong comes to dominate our legislative branch. Unfortunately, Republicans have had about 20 months to stop Trump from being president and they haven't stepped up to do so in any meaningful way. So there is no reason to think that any of them will find enough conscience left in what little remains of their scraggly husk of their immortal souls to act in even the most crystal clear impeachment scenarios.

is the guy was a 3-star general who headed the Defense Intelligence Agency, and to all appearances he engaged in illegal activity with less subtlety than a 5yr old.

Its like he thought that the rules no longer applied to him and that he could do whatever the fuck he wanted.

And people wonder it we'll ever know the full story. Of course we will because there has been one common thread through these revelations.

These people were fundamentally sloppy with details.
