The spread punt formation has pretty much killed them

by Brendan ⌂ @, The Chemical and Oil Refinery State, Friday, September 15, 2017, 08:38 @ Jay

Way too easy to have your guys on top of the return man immediately, so the risk/reward balance has shifted dramatically.

I agree with San Pedro that they're exciting, but also with PAK that they're dangerous. I can live with this development.

The spread punt formation

by CK08, Friday, September 15, 2017, 09:41 @ Brendan

also led to the hilarious 2002 Michigan-Iowa game, where Michigan tried to use it without understanding how to execute it and had multiple punts blocked.

So overall, I'm a fan of the spread punt formation.

Heh. I liked 2014, when Michigan was the lone holdout.

by Brendan ⌂ @, The Chemical and Oil Refinery State, Friday, September 15, 2017, 12:40 @ CK08

It was like they had shell shock from back then or something. They were probably the only team in the country not using it, and they were getting killed on punt returns.

I was so sad when Brady Hoke got fired. So, so sad.

What a disappointment.

by San Pedro, Thursday, September 14, 2017, 17:27 @ Jay

It's one of the most exciting plays in the game.

Also one of the most dangerous.

Definitely a trade off.

by San Pedro, Friday, September 15, 2017, 15:07 @ PAK

I'd prefer outlawing the spread formation and making it easier to field and get upfield.

We need Men with Chests!

by Bill, Southern California, Thursday, September 14, 2017, 12:44 @ Mike (bart)

not the revenue-whoring, lily-livered, pusillanimous, timorous, capricious Milquetoasts we have today.

We need real men! Bold men! Men with purpose and a sense of adventure! Let's not go gently into the good night!

We must return punts!

The boomers ruined football with specialty.

by nedhead, Saturday, September 16, 2017, 09:41 @ Mike (bart)

The Greatest Generation, they had to do everything. The Boomers ruined football with unlimited substitutions. And then made a huge amount of money off it.

Everyone.

by Greg, the 'Dena, Thursday, September 14, 2017, 12:07 @ Mike (bart)

Fire everybody and then sue them for lost enjoyment.

Rocket would have returned every punt for a TD, the way he did under Lou. Why can't it be that way always.

Are you being sarcastic?

Unacceptable attitude. You are so fired. Clean out that desk.
